ATSS Foundation receives $49,000 in grants to support work zone safety programs

The American Traffic Safety Services (ATSS) Foundation is pleased to report receiving $49,000 in grants in the fourth quarter of 2025.

The PPG Foundation awarded $20,000 to support the National Work Zone Safe Teen Driver Program, which is designed to help new drivers learn to safely navigate roadway work zones.

The NiSource Charitable Foundation/Columbia Gas and the Carlson Family Foundation each awarded the ATSS Foundation a grant of $10,000. The Enterprise Mobility Foundation awarded $8,500 and one by one awarded $500.

“We are tremendously grateful for the support of these nonprofit organizations and appreciate their interest in the work we are doing to raise awareness of the importance of work zone safety and the need to assist people – especially youth – who have been impacted by tragedy,” said ATSS Foundation Director Lori Diaz. “This support will help us further this work to both build individuals and prevent additional tragedies.”

The ATSS Foundation works to make zero deaths on the nation’s roads a reality by offering charitable programs, holding events and spreading the word through public awareness.

It operates three scholarship programs, the largest of which is the Roadway Worker Memorial Scholarship program. It annually awards academic scholarships to assist with post-high school education so dependents of roadway workers killed or permanently disabled in a work zone incident can pursue their career goals. Students who demonstrate a strong commitment to volunteerism could receive an additional $1,000 in honor of Chuck Bailey, an esteemed member of the roadway safety industry who passed away in June 2002.

The ATSS Foundation also annually awards Marty Weed Engineering Scholarships to provide financial assistance for new engineers employed by a public agency and specializing in work zone safety and temporary traffic control to participate in ATSSA’s Annual Convention & Traffic Expo.

In addition to the Teen Driver Program, the ATSS Foundation also offers an award-winning Work Zone Activity Book for children ages 5-8, and oversees the National Work Zone Memorial.

The PPG Foundation “helps to prepare today’s students for tomorrow’s opportunities, revitalize communities and enable our employees to lead the way to a brighter future.”

The NiSource Charitable Foundation is affiliated with Columbia Gas. Its mission is “to help create strong and sustainable communities where our employees and customers live and work.”

The Carlson Family Foundation is committed to giving back “in ways that respect where we’ve come from, to give back in ways that will build a better tomorrow, and – most importantly – to give back in ways that create opportunities for every young person to realize their dreams.”

The Enterprise Mobility Foundation supports communities where its team members live and work and “a range of charitable causes such as the environment, health & human services, education, military and disaster relief.”

The one by one organization awards $500 grants “for promotional products to organizations that are making a difference” to help them “spread the word, recruit volunteers, thank donors, or in some other way turn one thing into something much more.”
