ATSS Foundation Receives 2024 ASAE Power of Associations Silver Award
Foundation receives prestigious Power of Associations award for Work Zone Safety Educational Activity Book
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (July 24, 2024) — The ATSS Foundation, ATSSA’s charitable arm for roadway safety awareness and education, has been recognized as a Power of Associations Silver Award winner by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) for its successful Work Zone Safety Educational Activity Book.
From its initial release in 2020, this 32-page educational workbook with 26 pages of various activities, coloring and learning, has reached over 30,000 students to assist in the promotion of roadway work zone safety and awareness. The Activity Book focuses on teaching readers about the importance of construction work zones, how to recognize them and how to stay safe around them.
“Congratulations to the ATSS Foundation for exemplifying the impact associations have on the industries and professions they represent, and on society at large,” said ASAE President and CEO Michelle Mason, FASAE, CAE. “It’s always so incredibly satisfying to see associations going above and beyond their everyday mission to change the world. We’re very proud to spotlight this award-winning initiative.”
Speaking on the origins of the Activity Book, ATSS Foundation Director Lori Diaz shared, “The creation of the ATSS Foundation Work Zone Safety Educational Activity Book began with a heartfelt conversation between former ATSS Foundation Board Chair Dave Krahulec and Rachel Snell, former Superintendent of Carrollton Public Schools in Michigan, following the tragic loss of her husband, Dave Snell, in a 2018 work zone incident.”
Diaz added, “Driven by a passion for educating future drivers about the importance of work zone safety, the ATSS Foundation developed the activity book aimed to instill work zone awareness from an age. Winning the 2024 ASAE Power of Associations Silver Award is a testament to the ATSS Foundation’s core purpose of promoting roadway safety.”
The Activity Book was made possible thanks to support and contributions from former ATSS Foundation Board Chair Dave Krahulec, Rachel Snell, former Superintendent of Carrollton Public Schools in Michigan, John Dreznes of Calumet Marketing Initiatives, Foundation supporters and ATSSA members.
