Marty Weed Engineering Scholarship
In 2018, The ATSS Foundation began developing a scholarship to honor Marty Weed, a longstanding member of ATSSA and an icon in the roadway safety infrastructure industry. The Marty Weed Engineering Scholarship is designed to provide financial assistance for new engineers who are employed by a public agency and who specialize in work zone safety and temporary traffic control to participate in ATSSA’s Annual Convention & Traffic Expo, giving them the opportunity to strengthen their discipline skills and network with hundreds of national and international leaders in the industry.
Marty, who passed away Dec. 13, 2018, was a former Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) state work zone engineer and was involved in the roadway safety infrastructure industry for 33 years.
In 2015, Marty was honored by receiving ATSSA’s National Safety Award. He was also recognized by ATSSA’s Northwest Chapter on May 17, 2018, where he was presented with an award and joined by fellow ATSSA members for a baseball game at Safeco Field in Seattle, Washington.
As part of his commitment to developing the next generation of roadway safety professionals, Marty left an endowment to be used as a scholarship for engineers interested in the field of temporary traffic control and the highway safety industry. The Foundation is committed to continuing Marty’s legacy through this scholarship program.
Contributions are now being accepted online or by downloading and returning The Foundation pledge card.
