You make a difference in the lives of roadway workers and their families this year
Thank you for supporting the American Traffic Safety Services (ATSS) Foundation and the promotion of roadway safety through charitable giving and public awareness programs. Your impact on industry workers and their families does not go unnoticed. Find out how much your support means from successes during the second half of 2024.
One of the 12 students who received a Roadway Worker Memorial Scholarship for the 2024-25 academic year, Sydney Parsons, tells the story of learning her father, Brandon, was permanently disabled while working in a work zone. Your support of this scholarship and the supplemental Chuck Bailey Memorial Scholarship for volunteerism helps students attain educational goals. The 2025-26 scholarship application is available online until Feb. 15.
The ATSS Foundation and host Kentucky ATSSA Chapter were off to the races for the August 2024 Midyear Meeting fundraiser, where a record 286 attendees gathered at the Kentucky Derby Museum to push us further to our Toward Zero Deaths, Scholarships and Names initiatives. The event raised more than $20,000 and secured 35 sponsors. Roadway Worker Memorial Scholarship recipient Tessa Beard shared her story at the fundraiser and thanked supporters.
This Giving Tuesday, Dec. 3, broke the ATSS Foundation’s record by receiving donations totaling $20,730. This includes a $5,000 donation from Arizona ATSSA Chapter and a generous $5,000 matching donation from ATSS Foundation Board Member Margaret "Peggy" McGrath.
The National Work Zone Safe Teen Driver Program offers a free online work zone safety course. Teens who successfully complete the course are entered into a monthly drawing for a $500 educational scholarship provided by the ATSS Foundation. As of October, 10 teens have been selected for 2024.
A living tribute to the lives lost in roadway work zones and a way to help raise awareness of work one hazards to the public, the National Work Zone Memorial travels by request to communities across the country. A digital version is also available for meetings and events. The Memorial is inscribed with 1,635 names for its 2024 travels, which included 11 sites where it was viewed by an estimated 15,420 people. The digital Memorial was featured at 17 events, reaching more than 3,755 individuals. To help fund and maintain both Memorial versions, 12 companies and organizations sponsored the tribute.
Focusing on the second half of 2024, generous corporate partners like Brimar, NXL and Guidemark stepped up to support our mission through creative initiatives and events. Their contributions are helping us provide supportive options for roadway work zone workers and their families.
These achievements are only possible because of the unwavering support of donors, supporters and volunteers like you. Your commitment is the driving force behind our continued progress and success. Thank you for your dedication and making a meaningful impact.
Warm regards,
Lori Diaz, CFRE
