ATSS Foundation’s Planned Giving program enables donors to provide help for generations

Foundation Legacy Circle members make long-term impact on individual lives

ATSSA Chair Greg Driskell is well-versed in the Association and The ATSS Foundation where he serves as an ex-officio board member so when The Foundation established its Planned Giving program late last year, he didn’t hesitate to take part.

He had seen The Foundation open doors and change lives for individuals like Lyndsay Sutton.

“Her whole family life came apart” when she lost her father, Driskell said. But Sutton persevered, going to college with the help of a Roadway Worker Memorial Scholarship – competitive academic scholarships for the dependents of roadway workers killed or permanently disabled in work zone crashes. Today, she’s a member of the roadway safety industry.

In addition to providing academic scholarships, The Foundation honors those who died in work zones through support for the National Work Zone Memorial, gives children the opportunity to work through the grief of losing a loved one through Experience Camps travel scholarships, and supports the education of new engineers employed by a public agency specializing in work zone safety and temporary traffic control through the Marty Weed Engineering Scholarship.

Including The Foundation in a long-term financial plan ensures the nonprofit has the resources needed to fulfill its mission well into the future, said Lori Diaz, associate director of The Foundation. It also “is a great way to leave a legacy, so The Foundation will still be there for those children and engineers.”

“If someone is considering such a generous gift, we would be happy to help create a plan that benefits the person’s estate and makes his or her intentions clear,” Diaz added. “We created The Foundation Legacy Circle to show our gratitude for donors who choose to participate.”

Driskell is a veteran of the roadway safety infrastructure industry and chief operating officer of PPP Inc., a transportation safety products company in Jacksonville, Fla. With his long-term familiarity with the Association and The Foundation, he knew he wanted to make The Foundation part of his long-term plans.

“I really saw first-hand the impact The Foundation has,” Driskell said.
